Ancestors' Stories You Were Never Told

Dr. Tse-Yi Wang

Do you ever wonder who you are? Where you come from? Or why you exist here and now? If you have ever wondered about you and your family’s origins, you may be interested in discovering more about our common origins and the path of migration. To explain similarities in food, tradition, and language across different cultures and heritages found in the diverse lands of both Taiwan and Canada, we must trace the road through the past to Africa.

Dr. Tse-Yi Wang, known for his role as a member of the team that established the blood donation and transfusion system in Taiwan, has striven for years to trace the paths that humans have walked. WIth his team from the Mackay Memorial Hospital’s Molecular Anthropology and Transfusion Medicine Lab in Taiwan, Dr. Wang traces paternal and maternal bloodlines through complex networks, deciphering the secrets hidden in our blood and our Austronesian connections.

Dr. Wang’s goal is to create a genetic database of the Taiwanese people examining the stories locked away in our blood about our past – through our DNA, uncovering the stories that our ancestors weren’t able to pass on.
